Fun Winter Activities

Fun Winter Activities

With winter finally arriving I find myself trying to find indoor activities to entertain the kids. We have temperatures below zero and kids home from school because of the cold. We also find it hard to go to places since we can’t wear our coats in the car and bundling four kids up in the car when we reach our destination is tricky. So below is a list of winter time activities we love, some we do at home and others we venture out to.

  1. Fort building - my kids love to build forts and they think it’s special because it’s the only time I allow them to put the throw pillows and blankets on the floor or anywhere off the coach. It’s fun to see them be creative and use their problem solving skills to build something.

  2. Museum trips - we are so lucky that Grand Rapids has so many hands on museums the kids love to explore. We rotate through the many museums we live around and are always able to find new things to explore.

  3. Coloring - my kids love to color and with the internet it is so easy to print out coloring pages for free when needed. They always have new interest and love to find new coloring pages to decorate and color. We also like to experiment with lots of different mediums to decorate our coloring pages.

  4. Shopping for charity - one thing we are lucky enough to be able to do is to have room in our budget to donate to charities we feel strongly about. The kids love the opportunity to pick out different items and bring them to different sites to drop off.

  5. Decluttering - I am so grateful that my older kids have developed the idea of needs/wants very early on. It’s something we talk about a lot and we share how lucky we are because we are able to have things we want while still having all our needs taken care of. We also like to keep our house free of clutter and regularly they help me clean out their toys or closets and find things they don’t use or enjoy anymore so we can take them to the thrift store. We love this activity and I truly love that my kids are beginning these habits early.

These are some basic activities we do through out the winter. We stay busy with school, swim lessons and soccer and are so grateful we are able to participate in these activities as well.
