The Importance of a Routine
For babies and toddlers routine can be so important. I know though that some people do not like feeling stuck in a routine. So after I explain why having a routine is so important for children I will suggest a few ways to make a routine work for you.
Routine allow children and babies to know what is expected from them, which in turn gives them a sense of security. Routine helps children build independence and confidence. Routine helps a child know the family values and beliefs. Routine helps establish healthy habits. Routine offer stability in times of stress.
Each of the benefits listed above help provide a solid foundation for your child’s development and helps them and you to have a happy household. For us our routines are basic and not necessarily scheduled, we have an order of daily events and go through them in the manner and time frame that is appropriate for each day. This said we do have to have some time driven routines such as our bedtime routine and our wake up routine. This helps us to get to school on time and to help us get the sleep we need. Some families like to have a time based routine and some families have a routine that varies by day. No matter what your routine looks like, routine is important.
